Pertempuran tidak dapat dihindari dan mengakibatkan empat orang prajurit gugur, yaitu: Lettu Syahriar, Kopral Zubri Matcik, Sersan Zakaria, dan Kopral Sai Husin. Sai Sohar yang waktu itu telah berpangkat Sersan I segera masuk dalam Gerakan Pengamanan Umum (PO) di bawah pimpinan Simbolon dan Harun Sohar di Lahat. Sebagai balasan, keesokan harinya sekitar pukul 09.00 Sai Sohar bersama 19 prajurit beserta 3 orang staf Batalyon VI/41 (Sersan Mayor A. Kohar, Matcik Malik, dan Cik Ani) mengacau pos Belanda di Saung Naga. Tetapi, karena waktu itu seorang guru wajib menguasai bahasa Jepang sebagai pengantar di Volk School, sebelum diperbolehkan mengajar, setiap hari Rabu terlebih dahulu harus mengikuti kursus bahasa Jepang setiap di Lahat yang harus ditempuh dengan berjalan kaki sejauh sekitar 10 kilometer dari Dusun Kerung. Pandanglah juga Pak Gesang yang baru diingat justru setelah orang Jepang mengingatnya. Adapun putra bungsu yang bergelar Orang Kayo Hitam berniat untuk meluaskan wilayah hingga ke pedalaman, jika ada tuah, membangun sebuah kerajaan baru.
Tujuannya, selain menghindari serangan udara Belanda, juga untuk menyusul Mayor M. Soekardi Hamdani yang mendapat jabatan baru sebagai Komandan Batalyon 24 front selatan di Telukbetung. Gencatan senjata pun diumumkan, namun hanya sementara karena Belanda tidak mematuhinya sehingga pada tanggal 5 Agustus 1947 Komandan Garuda Hitam, Mayor Soekardi Hamdani memerintahkan agar pasukannya masuk ke Kota Baturaja. Pasukan Sai Sohar yang waktu itu juga ikut bergerilya, pada malam 28 Juli 1947 terpaksa harus bertempur melawan serdadu Belanda di Kemalaraja, RSU, sampai ke jembatan Sungai Ogan. Tidak puas dengan hanya menduduki Kota Palembang, pada 21 Juli 1947 Belanda mulai memperluas daerah kekuasaannya ke kota-kota lain di wilayah Sumatera Selatan. Begitu juga ketika Kota Baturaja diduduki Belanda, pada tanggal 30 Juli 1947 Kompi Sai Sohar berusaha merebutnya kembali dengan membantu pasukan Mayor Soekardi di front timur dan Mayor Harun Hadimarto menduduki Kemalaraja, PLN, RSU, dan jembatan Sungai Ogan. Tentara Belanda pimpinan Kolonel Mollinger langsung berusaha menguasai Kota Palembang sehingga terjadilah pertempuran lima hari lima malam antara tanggal 1 sampai 4 Januari 1947 melawan prajurit TRI dan lasykar-lasykar rakyat.
Kompi Sai Sohar menyingkir sementara ke Prancak, sekitar enam kilometer arah hulu Kota Martapura. Ketika menjadi Dan Ki Yon VI ini tugasnya semakin berat karena waktu itu ikut membantu tentara Inggris (pasukan Sekutu) melucuti senjata sekitar 25.000 serdadu Jepang yang menyerah tanpa syarat sebagai akibat kekalahannya dalam Perang Dunia II. Desa ini letaknya jarak sekitar 3 kilometer dari Desa Lubuk Nambulan dan harus ditempuh dengan berjalan kaki. Hari berikutnya pasukan front timur ditarik hingga ke Kemelak karena pasukan Belanda membawa bala bantuan dari Palembang melalui Prabumulih. Ketika Kota Martapura akhirnya juga jatuh ke tangan Belanda pada 10 November 1947, pasukan Sai Sohar hampir tidak melakukan perlawanan dan mundur teratur menuju Simpang Martapura lalu ke Lampung. Saya pilih berhenti sebagai Sarjana Muda dan memulai “kuliah” di jalanan bersama para seniman, buruh-buruh pabrik di Srondol, dan gelandangan di Simpang Lima, Semarang, di pertengahan tahun 80-an. Puisi itu kurang lebih bercerita tentang pendidikan. Dalam mengikuti berbagai macam pendidikan tersebut Sai Sohar dilatih dengan gaya militer Jepang yang sangat keras dan berdisiplin tinggi.
Setelah menamatkan pendidikan Leergang atau keguruan, Sai Sohar memulai karirnya sebagai guru Volk School (Sekolah Rakyat) di Dusun Kerung, Lubuk Sepang, Lahat. D. Damiri bekerja sebagai guru Sekolah Dasar di Tebing Tinggi, Lahat, sebelum meninggal dunia pada tanggal 4 Agustus 1961 karena ditembak oleh gerombolan PRRI. Nuraini juga menjadi guru Sekolah Dasar dan menikah dengan Mayor R. Sugito, sedangkan Nurlin menikah dengan Suwarso BA dan menetap di Prabumulih. Sebaliknya, ketika ada orang yang tiba-tiba menjadi buah mulut, idola dan tumpuan harapan banyak orang, ternyata adalah orang Minang meskipun lahir di perantauan atau anak pisang dari orang Minang yang sudah lama hilang menjadi Sutan Batawi, Rajo Medan atau Rajo Palembang dsb.nya, akan menumbuhkan rasa bangga meskipun dalam kadar yang berbeda di antara sesama orang Minang. Maksudnya, berasal dari keturunan yang sama sejak dari nenek moyangnya. Pada tahun 1903 Pangeran Ratu Martaningrat keturunan Sultan Thaha yang terakhir menyerahkan keris Singa Marjaya kepada Residen Palembang sebagai tanda penyerahan. Puncak kemarahan tersebut terjadi ketika ada perintah dari Panglima Sekutu kepada Panglima Jepang agar merebut daerah yang dikuasai Republik untuk selanjutnya diserahkan pada pihak Belanda. Oleh Jepang, wilayah Indonesia diserahkan kepada pihak Sekutu yang ditangani oleh Laksamana Mountbattern (Inggris) di bagian barat dan Jenderal Douglas Mac Arthus (Australia) untuk Indonesia bagian timur.
Sementara tentara Republik berperang dengan Jepang, Inggris tetap bertahan di Indonesia hingga Belanda mampu membawa tentaranya sejumlah 120.000 personil sampai akhir tahun 1946 karena telah terikat dalam sebuah konferensi di Singapura. Di dalam kaumnya, seorang laki-laki bermula sebagai kemenakan (atau dalam kotensk lain disebutkan; ketek anak urang, lah gadang kamanakan awak). Ada yang tertangkap kerana ditipu secara licik dan tidak kurang juga tunduk kerana godaan wang ringgit dan habuan tanah. Tidak berapa lama kemudian dikirim ke Giham sebagai Dan SIG (Komanden Seksi Istimewa Gerilya) front utara karena diperkirakan Belanda akan menyerang melalui utara.
